Hi,
I just want to say it was a great article. I am learning so much through this website and the book, "The 7-Day Back Pain Cure." I am a very active senior citizen who walks and lifts weights (2,3, and 5 pounds, depending on the exercise). I want to learn to do more stretching for flexibility as I know it is very important. I was diagnosed with osteoporosis about three years ago and take all the natural supplements, but no bisphosphenates (sp). I broke two vertebrae in my back and my hip about three years ago, but everything has healed beautifully according to my only MRI. I do have back pain, mostly if I wear too tight clothing around the waist, become too fatigued, or in the evening after a long day of work. It is mostly centered around the mid-back. It can be very aggravating. I have tried many things, but nothing has worked so far. I am sending for Heal N Soothe tomorrow and hope it helps. I also intend to look into muscle inbalances. I also need to lose about fifteen pounds + and carry most of my weight in my abdomen which I think is seriously aggravating my problem.

Sorry, I guess this was not the place to write all of this. I just feel some hope after not feeling any regarding this problem for a long time. Thanks for being there and offering help to others who suffer with the same problem. Back pain can take so much joy out of life so I am looking forward to finding ways to heal my back. I knew there was a way and now I think I've found it.

My husband has had back surgery and has a 10 inch titanium rod in his back. From all that I have read, I am sure his problems either started or progressed from muscle imbalances. He has a great deal of pain now (back and legs). I am sure that stretching would help but I am afraid to push because stretching today means pain tomorrow. We have talked with doctors and their response is "the surgery was successful" . He has had physical therapy and that helps, but after release we go right back to the same problem. He needs assistance with stretching but I don't know when to push him and when to not. Any suggestions??

Hi Arlene - You first need to go through a full track of physical therapy for your specific needs - and then transitional fitness therapy. Not sure if you've done any of that yet??

Hi Sean - with a past herniation of a disk - First and foremost - you need to see a doctor - But sometimes finding the right one is a task in itself.

Okay, so what do you do about tight hip flexors and a past herniated disc injury of the L5-S1? I am a weight lifter and I like to do sprints when I can.

Great article on exercise and back pain, when you do workout you should still be aware of your body and especially if you have back pain.

Another way to see if back pain is an issue is like you said, take photos and see postural changes, but also if you have muscular imbalances from side to side when you stretch.

Great article and I'm sure people will take your advice.

Cheers
